Project News
June 2008:- Since the end of December 2007 the project has ceased to be administered by CSV (Community Service Volunteers) and is also no longer funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Hopeful of future sustainability (there are many supporters of the website!!) for the time being Nigel Ingham, the School of Nursing at the Unversity of Cumbria and the Open University's Social History of Learing Disability Research Group all retain an active interest in developing this on-line archive.
- The Lancashire County Museums Service put on an exhibition of the project's work in Lancaster City Museum between Saturday September 22nd and closing on Friday December 21st. This was one of the best attended exhibitions in recent years in Lancaster - and went ahead despite the critical state of the museum service in Lancaster. Sadly, imposed organisational changes led to two long standing, committed and talented designers reluctantly deciding to leave. (Many thanks to Wendy, Andy and Heather for all their work in the summer of 2007).
- In December 2007 Jamea al Kauthar, Islamic College, kindly donated the Royal Albert Roll of Honour to the Kings Own Regimental Museum, as well as other items to Lancashire County Museum Service.
- As part of their studies, students from the University of Cumbria's
School of Nursing and Midwifery, the University of Lancaster's History
Department, the Adult College and Central High School, Lancaster all acted as volunteers on the project. In the case of the University of Cumbria and Central Lancaster High School project materials and the archive have been incorporated into their respective curricula.
- The website and archive is still work in progress and we welcome any comments (good or bad) which can help its long term development.
