This is the outside of one of the bungalows constructed around the early 1980s to support residents in living more independently. Eight of these prefabricated units were 'hastily erected' (at the North end of the hospital site) to compensate for the immediate closure of Richard Smith Ward - shut down in 1978 by the Regional Health Authority which was appalled at its poor condition.
