Jack used to be a regular visitor, and on the occasion of this photograph had arranged for a visit by a former Royal Albert residents' reminiscence group. All the members of this group had moved to residential accommodation in Morecambe during the 1980s. (Ref. No. 12.08)

Summary:

Farming

Jack Fletcher, a former resident, has a life long interest in farming, nurtured by his childhood experiences on a country estate near Billingham in Teeside. This continued to flourish at the Royal Albert where he worked in the gardens and on the hospital farm. In addition, while still a resident he developed strong links with a farm in Brookhouse, near to Lancaster. In this short extract from an interview recorded in Morecambe on July 7th 2005 he refers to this interest, still maintained in his early 80s. (Ref No. 1.1)

Jack: I don’t get out as much as I used to… I used to get my breakfast and go out and go down Arndale*… But on a Saturday I always go. I make sure on a Saturday I go for the day to farm.’

*Arndale Shopping Centre, Morecambe
