This is a photograph of Derby Home, which was a male ward across the road from the main hospital building, and one of the places Norman lived in during his many years at the Royal Albert.
He went to the hospital in the early 1940s, aged 4 years old, eventually leaving to buy his own house in the early 1980s.
Summary:
In this interview of December 1st 2005 (Ref. 7.0002) Norman talks about some of his experience at the Royal Albert, especially leaving for a short period to return to his home town of Birkenhead. Unfortunately this did not work out, returning to the hospital where he was put on a male lock up ward.
